The Problem
In an ideal future, access to medical care is a given for everyone - quick, professional, and preventive. To achieve this goal, a relieved healthcare system and new approaches to early disease detection are needed. The continuous measurement of vital parameters has long proven to be a valuable tool. It enables medical assessments of a person’s current health status and allows predictions about possible developments.
However, in reality, many of these parameters, despite their relevance are barely or only selectively recorded. The reasons are staff shortages, time pressure, and limited resources.
The Objective
The goal of the project is to design a vital signs self-measurement station that functions in a professional context, is intuitively understandable, and offers the highest precision with the simplest interaction. Patients should be able to position and measure themselves correctly and independently.
The measurement process must be clearly communicated, time-efficient, and technically precise. Relevant vital parameters should be recorded simultaneously and hygienically.
The outcome of this project forms the foundation for the targeted further development of existing technologies.
The Vision
Basic Idea of the Solution
Vitalvision is a securely installed measurement station designed for mobile medical contexts, for example, in the reception area of a “Medibus” operated by Deutsche Bahn, which is already in use today in crisis regions and structurally weak areas. The station uses an array of optical, laser, and infrared technologies to simultaneously capture relevant vital parameters. It can also detect early signs of high blood pressure and diabetes.
The analysis is conducted via the finest capillaries in the retina a well-established, non-invasive method already used by opticians. While you “look into the product,” VitalVision performs the analysis.
Within seconds, and completely contact-free, VitalVision records the data. Successful measurement is communicated immediately. However, the exact results are not displayed directly, but are instead discussed afterward together with medical professionals.

The Final design
Context: Mobile Medical Bus
The Medibus is an existing project by the Deutsche Bahn in Germany. The mobile health station is currently used to reach remote cities and serves as a quick reaction force to provide urgent healthcare needs. For example in Ukrainian refugee camps in Germany.

Generating time
In only three steps patients can measure their vital parameters themselves. The simple interface allows for clear interactions and peace of mind once the measuring is completed. The gained time enables follow-up meetings with the doctors for professional evaluation and human interaction about one's health.

The Benefits
Unlike conventional measurement methods, VitalVision enables simultaneous, contact free, and super fast self measurement of relevant vital parameters while being precise, hygienic, and sustainable. The station operates independently of body size and requires no disposable products. An animated user guide intuitively directs the gaze to the correct position and ensures clarity during the measurement process.
The handling of measurement data is highly professional. Results are not shown directly to the patient but are instead discussed with medical staff after each measurement. This builds trust and reduces uncertainty within the patient.
VitalVision enables a pleasant, safe, and precise measurement experience that empowers patients and significantly relieves medical personnel.
